Celebrating 12 Years
Racing For The Cure
The Blue Ribbon Run
The Blue Ribbon Run is an annual fund-raising activity held in Wilmington, North Carolina, to assist local families affected by colorectal cancer and to raise awareness of a cure.
Unique in its afternoon start time, The Blue Ribbon Run is a 5k and 1-mile fun run, with an after-race reception at Dockside restaurant. The reception features music by the local band Lunar Tide and includes beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway and a celebration of life and hope for a cure.
Julie & Christina
Their Legacy
The Blue Ribbon Run began as a way to honor and remember the lives of Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus by raising money and awareness and establishing an endowment in their names at the UNC-Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Julie and Christina both lost their battles with colorectal cancer at the young age of 41.
The run continues today, partnering with sponsors and donors to help those in our community battling colorectal cancer.

Raising Awareness
The Blue Ribbon Run Endowment
Every year, colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in nearly 100,000 Americans and more than half of those will die. Among men and women, it is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Early detection can save lives.
Statistics tell us 60% of colorectal cancer deaths can be prevented with screening.
There are many stories and memories of those who fought bravely. Blue Ribbon Run participants honor the memory of those lost to the disease by helping to raise awareness and money for the Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus Foundation.
