our mission

The Blue Ribbon Run, is a heartfelt, inspiring, event dedicated to the cherished memories of Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus. At just 41, both women bravely faced colorectal cancer, leaving a legacy that continues to drive our mission.

Our mission is twofold: to raise critical funds and awareness for colorectal cancer and to support the vital research through the endowment established in their honor at the UNC-Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Together with our valued sponsors and donors, we stand united in the fight against colorectal cancer, offering hope and assistance to those affected in our community.

Be a part of this meaningful cause—run, donate, or cheer—every step brings us closer to a cure.

Celebrating 13 Years
Racing For The Cure

The Blue Ribbon Run is an annual fund-raising activity held in Wilmington, North Carolina, to assist local families affected by colorectal cancer and to raise awareness of a cure.

Unique in its afternoon start time, The Blue Ribbon Run is a 5k and 1-mile fun run, with an after-race reception at Dockside restaurant. The reception features music by the local band Lunar Tide and includes beautiful views of the Intracoastal Waterway and a celebration of life and hope for a cure.

Raising Awareness

Every year, colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in nearly 100,000 Americans and more than half of those will die. Among men and women, it is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. Early detection can save lives.

Statistics tell us 60% of colorectal cancer deaths can be prevented with screening.

There are many stories and memories of those who fought bravely. Blue Ribbon Run participants honor the memory of those lost to the disease by helping to raise awareness and money for the Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus Foundation.
